Internal pressure led to Lucas Piccinato’s exit before Neo Química Arena match

Lucas Piccinato was dismissed as Corinthians’ women’s head coach in the early hours of Saturday, shortly after a 2-2 draw with Fluminense at Neo Química Arena in the second round of the Brasileiro.
According to Meu Timao, the board had decided on his removal before kick-off in Itaquera, he was formally told after the game during a meeting at Casa do Povo, and players were informed via WhatsApp messages.
As part of the process, he skipped the post-match press conference, which until then had taken place regardless of results. In the mixed zone, only defender Erika spoke to reporters.
Pressure for change came from senior figures at the club, with director Iris Sesso in agreement. Corinthians are now seeking a new head coach, with Emilly Lima, currently without a club, among the options.
Piccinato may continue his career abroad, having received recent approaches from England and Mexico.
The club also confirmed the exits of assistant Brenno Basso, goalkeeping coach Francisco Rodrigues and fitness coach Luiz Guilherme Gonçalves.
Until a new manager is appointed, the expectation is that Julia Passero, coach of the Under-20s, will take interim charge. The Brabas return on 13 March after the FIFA window to play Palmeiras at Arena Barueri.
Across 101 matches, his record was 71 wins, 20 draws and 10 defeats, a 77% points return, with 240 goals scored and 80 conceded. He won five trophies, two Libertadores, two Brasileiros and one Supercopa.
