Aaron Hickey and Scotland secured their spot at the 2026 World Cup with a thrilling 4-2 win over Denmark at Hampden Park on Tuesday evening.

The right-back started the game, which Steve Clarke's side knew they had to win to have any chance of qualifying for next summer's tournament automatically - a draw or a defeat would have resigned them to the play-offs.

Mikkel Damsgaard was in Denmark's starting XI, with the visitors conceding the opening goal: a sensational overhead kick from former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, inside the opening five minutes.

The Danes scored a penalty, before Lawrence Shankland put the hosts back in front. Patrick Dorgu netted an equaliser in the 82nd minute - a goal which many assumed would send Denmark to North America.

But another couple of brilliant goals from Kieran Tierney and Kenny McLean in stoppage time dramatically won the game for Scotland.

Kevin Schade was an unused substitute as Germany beat Slovakia 6-0 in Leipzig, comfortably securing their place at the World Cup next summer.

Rico Henry and Ethan Pinnock unfortunately missed out on their chance to qualify with Jamaica on Wednesday morning, after a 0-0 draw with Curaçao. Pinnock started the game, with Henry an unused substitute.

However, the Reggae Boyz still could reach the World Cup via the intercontinental play-offs in March.

Scotland and Germany, along with Jordan Henderson's England and Kristoffer Ajer's Norway, who have already secured their qualification, will find out who they will face in the World Cup when the group stage draw takes place on Friday 5 December.

Burkina Faso and Dango Ouattara beat Benin 3-0 on Tuesday, which rounded off a successful international break for them, winning both of their two matches.

Conor McManus played in the Republic of Ireland Under-21s' disappointing 4-0 defeat to Andorra. The result leaves Ireland eight points adrift of leaders England in their U21s Euro 2027 qualifying group, and six behind second-placed Slovakia with a game in hand.

Julian Eyestone featured for the USA U20s in their second game against Costa Rica this fortnight. After a 2-1 win in the opener, the visitors won the second game 4-0 in Costa Rica.

Luka Bentt played 90 minutes as Belgium U19s picked up another point in U19s Euro 2027 qualifying with a 1-1 draw against Portugal.

Matas Klimas started for Lithuania U19s in their 2-1 defeat to Latvia, also in U19s Euro qualifying.

This is a record for most Brentford players to win a cap in one international break, with 19 Bees featuring for their countries.
