Nico O’Reilly enjoyed an impressive England debut in a 2-0 win over Serbia.

The City left-back was named in the starting XI by Thomas Tuchel, and the 20-yearold didn’t disappoint.

Full of energy and athleticism, O’Reilly was a constant threat down the left flank, and it was from his half-cleared shot that Bukayo Saka gave the already-World Cup bound Three Lions the lead on 28 minutes.

Not long after, the overlapping O’Reilly came close to scoring himself as his low cross was deflected onto the outside of the post.

John Stones have a typically classy display in central defence, with the Blues’ fan favourite earning cap number 86 for his country.

Both City defenders played the full 90 minutes, while Phil Foden was introduced for Harry Kane on 65 minutes to win his 46th cap, replacing the England skipper and slotting into the No.9 role.

Foden capped a bright cameo by assisting Eberechi Eze’s late second on 90 minutes.

After the game, Foden said: “It’s amazing to be back with these great players.

“I thought I did well, created a few chances and was I unlucky not to put a few away

“I’m happy to play whenever the coach wants me to play.

“Maybe [playing in the false nine] will get the best out of me, only time will tell.

“Overall, it was a great team performance – there are quality players all over the pitch and the pressure is on for everyone to play well for their clubs.

“My smile is definitely back!”

Rayan Cherki was handed a central attacking midfield role for France against Ukraine.

Earning only his third cap for Les Bleus, the City star made a solid contribution before being replaced on 68 minutes with the score 1-0 thanks to Kylian Mbappe’s penalty on 58 minutes.

Michael Olisie added a second on 72 , Mbappe scored his second on 83 and Hugo Ekitiké was also on target to complete a 4-0 win and confirm France’s spot at next summer’s World Cup.

It was a miserable evening for City’s Portuguese trio.

Finally, Rayan Ait-Nouri banked a useful 62 minutes under his belt as Algeria beat Zimbabwe 3-1 in a friendly at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium in Saudi Arabia.

The City left-back, making his way back to full match fitness, was replaced by Mehdi Dorval just past the hour, by which time the Algerians were already three goals up thanks to goals from Bounedjah, Amoura and Hadjam.
