The countdown is on to Inter vs. Atalanta: the eve of the EA Sports FC Supercup semi-final began with the official press conference. On Wednesday morning, Simone Inzaghi spoke ahead of the game on Thursday 2 January 2025 at 20:00 CET:

What do you want from 2025: Which things can still be improved? “Clearly, the aims for 2025 are the same as when I arrived three and a half years ago. Inter is a big club, and we need to aim for the top, winning as many games and titles as possible, starting with the upcoming Supercoppa. It will be harder than last year, but we will try to do our best starting tomorrow evening.”

The two most in-form sides in Serie A will play one another: what message will the Supercoppa send to the league? “Two sides on incredible journeys will play one another. Atalanta’s biggest success, aside from the Europa League, is the fact that it is no longer a surprise, they are getting brilliant results in the league and Champions League: it will be a hard game for us like always, Inter will have to put in a good performance against a side doing well and getting results”.

How necessary will it be for everything to be in the right place for things to work well? “Many things need to go well, we are on a good run but we know there are always dangers around the corner. We have some issues with numbers in defence, we hope Acerbi and Pavard will be back in the first half of January, Di Gennaro is also out. The others are doing well and training at their best: we will try to field a competitive side”. “Thank you for the welcome, the Supercoppa is very important to us, we’ve shown that in the last three years, winning the title. We want to put in a good performance to get to the final but we know that there are three other sides with the same goal and there will be difficulties from the first game against Atalanta, currently league leaders”.

Given the recent results against Atalanta, do you expect them to make any changes? “Previous fixtures don’t go out onto the pitch with you and don’t get you points, this year we faced them when the transfer window was still open and they had several issues. Since then, they’ve had a great three and a half months: they are very physical but have a lot of skill in all areas of the pitch, Inter have to put in a good performance”.
