Leeds United’s new Premier League rivals Ipswich Town have launched a search for a head coach after Kieran McKenna decided to step down.

The club said in a statement that he will leave this summer after five seasons in charge to take time away from management and be with his family.

McKenna, a highly rated young coach, took Ipswich from League One to the Premier League, the Tractor Boys returning to the top flight as Championship runners-up. The club hailed one of the most successful eras, citing three promotions in four years, including two to the top tier, and a deepened bond with supporters.

He reflected on an unforgettable journey, expressed gratitude and pride, and plans a break from management to dedicate time to his family.

Ipswich will now turn to appointing a successor, with Gary O’Neil the early favourite to replace him.
