The 32-year-old was without a club after leaving Leeds United in the summer, but he joined Sheffield United in November, agreeing a contract that runs until later this month.

It has been a move that has worked out very well for both parties so far, with Bamford scoring five goals in ten appearances for Sheffield United.

Ipswich Town eyeing up potential Patrick Bamford deal

However, with Bamford’s deal running out, there are doubts over his short-term future, and journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that Ipswich Town could be ready to move for the striker.

He explains that they are ‘keeping a close eye’ on developments involving the ex-England international and the Blades as they wait to see if he becomes available.

Whilst the update adds that Bamford is ‘settled in Sheffield’, it states that he would be open to leaving if a suitable offer does arrive.

Bringing in a new striker is likely to be a priority for Ipswich as they have lacked a prolific number nine this season, with George Hirst struggling with injuries, whilst loanees Chuba Akpom and Ivan Azon have failed to meet expectations so far.

Patrick Bamford has proven he can still deliver in the Championship

It’s no surprise that clubs are taking notice of Bamford, as he has been excellent since he joined up with Chris Wilder’s side, and, crucially, he has proven his fitness over a number of months.

His goal return is impressive, and Bamford brings a lot to the team with his overall work-rate and how he can bring others into play.

As mentioned, Ipswich are lacking that focal point right now, and whilst the prospect of a short-term deal for Bamford won’t exactly excite the supporters, he could be the short-term solution to help them reach the Premier League, which is the only objective for the club.

Ultimately, Bamford has put himself in a position where he can decide his next move, and his performances for the Blades mean he is unlikely to be short of offers.

When you consider how quickly he has become an important figure at Bramall Lane, you would be surprised if he decided to move, particularly as he is getting the game time that he will be prioritising at this stage of his career.

So, it will be interesting to see how this plays out, and you would expect Bamford to want a relatively swift resolution so he can remain focused on the rest of the season.
