Azeez proved himself as one of the best wingers in the Championship this term, scoring 11 goals and registering seven assists in 35 second-tier appearances.

The 24-year-old was the Lions' top scorer this season, playing a key role as Alex Neil's men clinched third place, finishing just one point adrift of Ipswich, who sealed automatic promotion.

However, Millwall went on to lose to Hull City in their Championship play-off semi-final, leaving them more susceptible to losing their star assets this summer.

Ipswich have enjoyed the services of talented wingers such as Jaden Philogene, Jack Clarke, Anis Mehmeti and Kasey McAteer this term, but they know that they must bolster their ranks this summer, having sealed promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Tractor Boys were relegated from the top flight alongside Leicester City and Southampton in 2025, and will desperately want to avoid a similar fate next term.

Meanwhile, Alan Nixon reported via Patreon on Sunday that Ipswich were hoping to sign Azeez for a fee worth between £15million and £20m this summer.

According to Southwark News, Millwall rejected a bid for Azeez from the Tractor Boys that would have seen the Lions make a club-record sale in the winter transfer window.

Alex Neil opted to keep his side's star man, as the Den outfit were vying to reach the Premier League for the first time since its inception in 1992.

Meanwhile, in contrast to Nixon's aforementioned report, East Anglian Daily Times football reporter Stuart Watson revealed via X on Monday that Ipswich do not intend to renew their interest in Azeez this summer.

However, Kieran McKenna's side have already been relatively busy in the transfer market, as Cedric Kipre's loan move to Portman Road became a permanent deal when the Tractor Boys won promotion.

Furthermore, according to French outlet Foot Sur 7, Southampton and Ipswich are both keen on Marseille defender CJ Egan-Riley, who formerly represented Burnley.

Egan-Riley helped the Clarets win promotion to the Premier League, but opted to make the switch to Ligue 1, rather than plying his trade for the Lancashire club in the English top flight.

Ipswich's interest in the former Burnley man proves their appetite to further strengthen their defence, but McKenna must also bolster his attack despite his side's Azeez U-turn.

Millwall may still face uphill battle to keep Femi Azeez despite Ipswich decision

The fact that Ipswich are not keen on renewing their interest in Azeez this summer is good news for Millwall, who will be keen on launching another promotion bid next term.

However, just because the Tractor Boys have cooled off their interest in the former Reading man doesn't mean that the Lions will retain his services.

Alongside his goalscoring and assist-making exploits, Azeez boasts an impressive ability to use both feet, making him difficult for opposition defenders to deal with.

Consequently, high-profile clubs could plot deals for the winger, which may hamper Millwall's future promotion credentials, despite the handsome transfer sum they would be able to recoup.
