Andoni Iraola says he “cannot guarantee” Cody Gakpo will remain at Liverpool amid reports linking him with Spurs and Manchester City.
Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing the Netherlands international as they look to strengthen their frontline.
City are in need of attacking reinforcements after selling both Savio and Omar Marmoush to Spurs. Gakpo can play out wide or up top, though his best position is on the left.
The 27-year-old’s place in the starting lineup could be under threat if Liverpool complete a £120 million deal for PSG winger Bradley Barcola. The Reds are said to be looking at making a move for Crystal Palace wide man Ismaila Sarr, in case Gakpo does leave Anfield before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.
Iraola says he has been impressed with Gakpo since becoming Liverpool manager and hopes “we can keep him at that level” going forward, hinting that he would like him to stay at the club.
“I can say what I said last week and even after the performance he had in the first game, he is playing very well for us,” Iraola said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Nottingham Forest.
“He has been very good since he came back from the World Cup and the holidays. Very good attitude and I hope we can keep him at that level because I think he has been very influential in our games.
“When the market is open, we have almost 30 players, you cannot guarantee anything with anyone. You never know who is going to arrive. I would like to know how the market finishes but I don’t know what is going to happen with any of our players. I cannot guarantee anything.”
