Iraola criticises Isak after Bournemouth clash despite him scoring the winner | OneFootball

Andoni Iraola admitted that Alexander Isak needs to do more to help Liverpool, despite scoring the winning goal against Bournemouth.

Isak’s second-half goal was enough to secure the three points on the south coast, but he could have scored more on the day.

Iraola was asked about the striker’s performance after the match.

“Yes, the striker’s job is like this,” he said. “He had a couple of situations, the crossbar that doesn’t hit properly, one chance to control and this.

“But, at the end, he has to help us to get closer to the box, to play in the opposition half, to have meaningful possession.

“And then, if the team is playing there, he will receive the rewards in terms of goals. But it has cost us today, putting the level so we could play better.”

After this win, Liverpool now have a three-week break before their next match in the Premier League when they will face Manchester City. Iraola explained the plan for the players not going on international duty over the next period.

“We are still training, but it’s true that we are training with four or five players,” he answered. “Because most of the team is playing with the national team.

“The players will now have some days off and then we will keep working with the ones that stay, and then prepare well for when the others come. We have more than three days, probably, to prepare for the City game.

“We are ready, not just for that game, but for the run of games that we have, that is going to be demanding.”
