Andoni Iraola believes Bournemouth were denied a “clear” penalty following his side’s goalless draw with Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.

The Clarets held the Cherries for the second time this season as both teams hit the woodwork, but that was the closest they came to breaking the deadlock.

Jaidon Anthony smashed the crossbar in the first half before Marcus Tavernier saw his effort kiss the outside of the post after the break.

Iraola felt Bournemouth should have won the game after taking 22 shots, three of which were big chances.

“Of course, we did enough,” he said after the full-time whistle. “If you check the stats, we had lots of shots. You need to score and you cannot miss these chances. We are not conceding goals but we are not scoring.

“It is frustrating. We miss chances. It is a clear penalty. We will have two sorrys and four points less.”

Iraola added “we knew” it was going to be a tough day out at Turf Moor. “They had a good chance. The second half was much better from our side. The first 20 minutes were very good. We had clear chances but we haven’t scored. It is a little frustrating.”

Evanilson went down theatrically following a challenge from Joe Worrall with ten minutes to go, but Iraola believes the referee should have point to the spot.

“I think it’s (Bashir) Humphreys and Worrall,” he said. “Evanilson goes down and it’s so clear. We are not making a lot of noise; we are Bournemouth. Worrall only has the intent of kicking Evanilson.”
