Liverpool under Iraola have lined up Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brugmans, 18, widely dubbed the new Courtois, with any move tied to Giorgi Mamardashvili’s situation.

According to Superdeporte, a deal is valued at around 35 million euros and would proceed if Mamardashvili departs in the coming hours, otherwise Brugmans would remain on loan at Genk.

Mamardashvili joined Liverpool for 30 million euros, spending a season back on loan at Mestalla. At 25 and close to 2 metres tall, he appeared a strong fit for the Premier League but Alisson Becker has blocked him from the No 1 spot.

Last season he featured across competitions but numbers underwhelmed for Anfield standards, conceding 18 goals in 10 league matches and 10 in 7 Champions League games. He also let in 6 across 3 ties in the EFL Cup and FA Cup.

Alisson is under contract until June 2027, turns 34 in October and was recently close to leaving. Signed from Roma in summer 2018 for 72 million euros, he has more than justified that outlay.

Liverpool are looking to refresh the goalkeeping department, at least in the reliable understudy role currently filled by Mamardashvili. Brugmans, like Courtois a product of Genk, stands 2 metres and has just turned 18.
