Back in Brazil after competing in the FIFA Women's Club World Cup, Corinthians director Iris Sesso spoke about the statement made by Gabi Portilho after the semifinal against Gotham, which the Brabas won 1-0, securing a spot in the final of the competition.

Upon returning to Brazil, in an interview with Fut das Minas, Iris commented on the topic, stating that the athlete's remarks were made at an inappropriate time, highlighting the emotional context of the post-game, but emphasizing the importance of the relationship built between the club and the player during the time Portilho played for Corinthians.

“She was unfortunate in her statement, especially considering the timing. I understand she was upset with the loss, but it's part of an athlete's life; everything is part of defeat too. But the timing of her statement was a bit unnecessary. I think she should have said something when she left, as I remember she said 'see you soon' to Corinthians, so we felt she truly has gratitude for the club, and she should because the club provided her with all the structure. She had her merits as an athlete, but I think the club also made her who she is today. So, I think it was a bit unfortunate when she made the statement,” said Iris.

The director emphasized that she understands the emotional impact of losing an international final but noted that Corinthians played a fundamental role in the athlete's development, offering structure and conditions for her professional growth.

Corinthians concluded their participation in the Women's Club World Cup as runners-up after being defeated by Arsenal, 3-2, with goals from Gabi Zanotti and Vic Albuquerque, who scored a penalty in stoppage time, taking the match to extra time. In the extra period, Arsenal scored the winning goal.

The team now shifts its focus to the continuation of the season. Next Saturday (07), at 4 PM (Brasília time), Corinthians will face Palmeiras in the Women's Supercup at Arena Barueri, competing for the first trophy of the season.
