One week after arriving in London to finish preparations for the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup semi-finals, Corinthians are focused on acclimatisation. Speaking to Corinthians TV, women’s football director Iris Sesso said arriving ahead of schedule allowed valuable adaptation to the time zone and climate, noting the first four days in the city were especially useful.

Corinthians secured their sixth Conmebol Libertadores Feminina on 18 October, drawing 0-0 with Deportivo Cali of Ecuador before winning 5-3 on penalties to book their place. On returning to Brazil, Sesso met president Osmar Stabile to map the campaign and recruitment, with the club adding centre-back Agustina Barroso, midfielders Ana Vitória and Paola García, and forwards Rhaizza and Belén Aquino.

With a free day on Saturday, part of the squad attended Corinthian-Casuals’ 2-2 draw with Abbey Rangers in the Combined Counties League South, England’s seventh tier. Sesso underlined the symbolism of visiting the club Corinthians regard as a brother and thanked Casuals for the warm reception, noting the date also marked 11 years since their visit to the Arena.

On 24 January 2015, Corinthians beat the English side 3-0 at Neo Química Arena, with Luciano scoring twice and Danilo also on target. The friendly celebrated the clubs’ bond and honoured the team that inspired Timão’s name in 1910.

At the Casuals match, players and directors, including Sesso, were welcomed by Fiel Londres, a group of Corinthians fans based in the capital, and posed with supporters on arrival. At half-time, the squad went onto the pitch for photos with the English team.

Corinthians begin their Club World Cup campaign on Wednesday at 9.30 Brasília time at the Gtech Community Stadium against Gotham FC of the United States. Head coach Lucas Piccinato should be able to call on Dayana Rodríguez, Gisela Robledo and Paola García, who will travel tonight after resolving visa issues.
