Is £20 million a fair price to pay for a Celtic star?

Yesterday Manchester City were linked with a move for Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi. Sam Lee reported for The Athletic that the Japanese international is one of two players that the champions have identified as a potential target this month. Furuhashi could be the ideal player to provide cover for Erling Haaland this summer. Now a new report indicates that Celtic would demand £20 million for their star striker. Is that a fair price to pay for the Celtic star? That could prove to be a bargain as City look to strengthen their attacking options.

John McGarry has reported for the Daily Mail that Celtic would demand over £20 million for the Japanese international. Furthermore, McGarry reports that Celtic would be unlikely to reject City’s offer if it matched their asking price. Lastly, McGarry adds that City may move for the Celtic star in the coming days.

£20 million for Kyogo would represent a good price for what Manchester City need to add to their squad.

It isn’t uncommon nowadays to see sizable transfer fees paid for squad players. It has almost become an accepted practice in the modern game. In the era of Financial Fairplay regulations and so on it is understandable why clubs demand such fees to sell their prized assets.

With that in mind a few of £20 million or just over for Kyogo Furuhashi would represent shrewd business for Manchester City. They are in desperate need of a player who can come in and provide cover for Erling Haaland. The departure of Julian Alvarez has forced City’s hand in that regard. As reported yesterday Kyogo Furuhashi looks to be the perfect addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. The Japanese international has proven to be a quality player at Celtic. What he offers as a player looks to be the ideal addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. If he can be signed for a fee of around £20 million it looks to be smart business by the world champions.

It remains to be seen if Manchester City will move for Kyogo Furuhashi. But if John McGarry’s report is on the mark then a fee of £20 million or just over is a small price to pay for the final piece of City’s jigsaw this summer.
