Three Lions return to scene of last-32 comeback over DR Congo for huge semi-final tie at World Cup
England take on Argentina tonight for a place in the World Cup 2026 final against Spain.
European champions Spain were comfortable 2-0 winners over favourites France in the first blockbuster semi-final tie held in Dallas on Tuesday, reaching their first final since lifting the trophy for the first time in 2010.
England are bidding to reach the World Cup final for the first time since 1966, while reigning champions Argentina are hoping to make back-to-back finals after winning the tournament for the third time in Qatar in 2022.
While tactically-astute Spain expertly nullified France’s vaunted attack, tonight’s game is expected to be far more open and emotional, with Argentina and England sharing plenty of history both on and off the pitch.
England face Argentina at Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
Kick-off in the second World Cup 2026 semi-final is at 8pm BST on Wednesday, July 15. That is 3pm local time.
It isn’t, usually. Normally it is known as Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but FIFA do not permit commercial stadium names to be used during the World Cup.
That has meant the venues at this tournament mostly being referred to simply by where they are located, with the exception of BC Place in Vancouver.

The weather has been a key talking point throughout the tournament, with kick-off in 10-man England’s remarkable 3-2 last-16 victory over co-hosts Mexico at the Estadio Azteca delayed by an hour due to thunderstorms in Mexico City.
There were also concerns of a storm or heat delay heading into England’s 2-1 quarter-final win over Norway in Miami, but those fears were allayed, and the game began on time with no disruptions.
Luckily for players and supporters, there are unlikely to be any delays ahead of England vs Argentina.
Atlanta Stadium has a retractable roof, meaning there should be no disruption despite stormy weather being forecast in the surrounding area before and during the game.
When the retractable roof is closed, it creates a fully climate-controlled environment, meaning players are not at risk from adverse weather conditions outside the stadium.
Both teams will be well accustomed to the conditions, with England staging their come-from-behind victory over DR Congo in the last 32 at Atlanta Stadium, while Argentina came from two goals down to mastermind a miraculous late 3-2 win over Egypt in the last 16.
Tonight’s game will be the last of eight World Cup fixtures hosted at Atlanta Stadium.

Yes, Atlanta Stadium is fully air conditioned throughout - offering players, coaches, fans and officials alike welcome protection from the heat and humidity outside.
The temperature in Atlanta will be at around 29 degrees at the time of kick-off, though that will feel much warmer.
Atlanta Stadium is located in the Vine City area, just west of downtown Atlanta - the capital and biggest city in the southern state of Georgia.
Atlanta Stadium has a capacity of 67,382 for the World Cup - though that is higher for NFL games.
