Is Bruno Guimaraes considered a world class player?

Bruno Guimaraes is the latest player to join Arsenal after the Gunners completed his move from Tottenham, and the Brazilian will make them significantly better.

Guimaraes has been one of the top midfielders in Europe over the last few seasons and has completely transformed his game. The Gunners quickly identified him as a player to sign, and if they had not made the move happen, he probably would have moved to another club in this window.

Mikel Arteta’s side are keen to ensure that he delivers value now that he is on their books, and some of their fans would say he is another world-class signing by the club this summer.

Hamann questions Guimaraes’ status

The Brazilian is a top player, but it is difficult to agree that he is one of the world-class midfielders, with ex-Liverpool man Dietmar Hamann believing he is not at that level yet.

He believes Guimaraes has the quality to make an impact at Arsenal, particularly with the club already having strong midfield options. The midfielder will now have the opportunity to prove his quality at a higher level and show that he deserves to be considered among the best.

As quoted by the Metro, Hamann said:

‘They’ve got some very good players in there with Declan Rice and a couple of others, but he’ll find his place. But I think what they want from him is getting a bit more adventurous from midfield.

‘I think he can bring that for them, but to call him top class, I think, is a bit premature. He’s a very good player. To show he’s top class, I think he’s got to prove it now at Arsenal.’

Guimaraes has a point to prove

Hamann’s comments place the pressure on Guimaraes to demonstrate his quality after joining Arsenal. Although he recognises the Brazilian as a very good player, he believes the midfielder must prove himself before receiving a top-class label.

Guimaraes will now look to establish himself at Arsenal and justify the club’s decision to bring him in. His performances could determine whether he eventually earns recognition as one of the leading midfielders in Europe.
