There is no third-place play-off in the Supercopa de España, semi-final losers leave the competition and the winners contest the final on Sunday 11 January.

As reported by as.com, the 2026 edition features Real Madrid, Athletic Club, Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid. It began on Tuesday with Athletic Club facing Barcelona, which ended in a convincing Barcelona victory. The second semi follows a day later, with Madrid up against Atlético.

The format changed in 2019 when organisers moved the competition to Saudi Arabia, a decision that drew criticism from fans and players. The old two-legged final between league and cup winners was replaced by a four-team Final Four.

Qualification goes to the top two in LaLiga and the two Copa del Rey finalists. If a cup finalist also finishes in the top two, the next best league side takes the spare berth.

There is no classification or podium between the beaten semi-finalists, both depart at the same stage.
