Liverpool coach Arne Slot dismissed reports linking Xabi Alonso with the club after the Spaniard’s recent departure from Real Madrid.

Slot Breaks Silence on Alonso Rumours

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot expressed surprise at growing media reports suggesting Xabi Alonso could replace him at Anfield.

Alonso’s name has again been linked with Liverpool especially amid suggestions that Slot could be under pressure due to inconsistent results this season.

The Dutch coach addressed the rumours during his press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Marseille part of the league phase of the competition.

“One of the Strangest Questions”

When asked directly about Alonso , Slot responded with irony according to comments reported by Liverpool Echo. He joked that Alonso had already called him to say he would take over in six month before quickly dismissing the claim.

Slot then adopted more serious tone.. He stated that it was one of the strangest questions he had faced stressing that he has been working at Liverpool for 18 month and remains satisfied with his role.

He pointed to past success including winning the league while acknowledging that the current campaign has been challenging.
