Two early goals from Alexander Isak helped Liverpool get their first win of the Premier League season at Portman Road.
The Reds came into this one after drawing their first two games 2-2 to face an Ipswich Town side who shipped five away to Manchester United last weekend. Ipswich continued to concede here as well as the duo of Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak combined twice in the space of three minutes to give Andoni Iraola's team a 2-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes.
The first goal came in the sixth minute beginning with Alisson Becker's punch before Gakpo fed Isak in to finish past Kjell Scherpen, despite the big Dutch goalkeeper getting a hand to the shot.
Shortly after, Gakpo again found the striker who managed to outfox Jacob Greaves and then pass the ball into the net with Scherpen way out of position.
The Tractor Boys did respond well to that early setback and slowly got back into the game although they found any attempts to create chances frustrated.
Iraola was able to give fans a glimpse of new signing Bradley Barcola. The winger was signed from Paris Saint-Germain late in the transfer window and made his debut in the 64th minute.
Liverpool thought they should have had a penalty in the second half when Leif Davis caught Dominik Szoboszlai. VAR advised the referee to take another look at it but eventually no penalty was awarded with the Hungarian found to be just offside in the build-up.
The game eventually fizzled out with Liverpool able to keep their clean sheet and move up to fifth in the Premier League ahead of this weekend's fixtures.
