Ismael Bennacer was sent off 35 minutes into his Al-Gharafa debut in the AFC Champions League after a touchline brawl with Al-Hilal's Crysencio Summerville.

Goal.com reports that Pedro Martins made a surprise call, starting the new signing for the opening round against Simone Inzaghi's Al-Hilal and handing him the No 10 role as playmaker.

Both Bennacer and Summerville were shown straight red cards in the 35th minute. The flashpoint followed Bennacer stepping in to defend a team-mate after Summerville had shoved him off the pitch.

The pair grappled on the touchline, clutching shirts, with Bennacer grabbing Summerville by the hair and the Leeds man reacting instantly. Team-mates and coaches struggled to separate them. Simone Inzaghi tried to intervene and almost fell before Sergej Milinkovic-Savic pulled his team-mate away.

The dismissal threatens to check Bennacer's start in Qatar. There is already talk of at least a three-match ban, and the sports judge could still come down hard.
