Ismail Kartal has hailed Roma and underlined the scale of the task as Fenerbahce prepare for their Champions League league phase opener, with the club ending 18 years away from the competition.
According to Goal.com, the head coach expressed pride at guiding his side through three qualifying rounds and said he trusts his players to compete at the highest level. Now in his fourth stint, he is only the second Turkish manager to lead Fenerbahce into the Champions League phase.
Assessing the visitors, he noted Roma have begun Serie A with three wins from three and said they possess the strongest squad in their history.
Kartal said his staff have completed exhaustive analysis and that Fenerbahce will seek a proactive but balanced game in both attack and defence. He confirmed Spanish forward Marco Asensio remains sidelined through injury.
Expecting a tight, strategic contest, he appealed for patience and sustained backing from the home crowd. Fenerbahce host Roma at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Thursday 10 September, kick-off 19:45 local time.
