Manchester United’s shock defeat to Hull City in the Premier League this weekend has set the alarm bells ringing. The Red Devils failed to break down the Tigers’ resolute defence and were undone by two set-pieces.

Michael Carrick’s team had scored goals galore since the Englishman’s arrival in January this year, but they were completely shut out by the Premier League newcomers. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Sesko all failed to have an impact, while Bruno Fernandes had a quiet outing as well.

The result brought United’s issues at the back to the fore, but also raised concerns about the attack. The English giants have been linked with attacking additions all summer, especially with Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee’s futures uncertain.

The attack could be a priority after the Hull debacle, and one player who remains linked with a move to Old Trafford for the role is Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr.

A Premier League-proven attacker

Sarr arrived at Selhurst Park in the summer of 2024, having spent time with Metz, Rennes, Watford and Marseille in his career. The Senegalese was an instant hit with the London club, scoring 12 times in his debut campaign.

Last season, the 28 year old found the back of the net 21 times in all competitions.

Ismaila Sarr Stats: 2025/26 Season

Sarr is lightning quick, direct and thrives in transition, qualities that inadvertently make him a fine fit for Carrick’s tactics. While the Senegalese mostly operates on the right wing, he is also comfortable playing through the middle.

A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person suggests that United will face competition from Galatasaray in the race for Sarr. An update on the situation has now emerged.

United keeping close watch on Sarr

According to TEAMtalk, the Eagles want more than £50 million to let their prized asset leave this summer. The report states: “Crystal Palace want more than £50million to even consider allowing Ismaila Sarr to leave the club this month, with Galatasaray continuing their attempts to sign the Senegal international amid rival interest from Manchester United, TEAMtalk can reveal.”

Galatasaray have already stolen a march on the Red Devils, and have struck a deal with the player’s camp. However, Crystal Palace are adamant that a move will only happen if their demands are met.

The report confirms that the player is ready to leave Selhurst Park this summer, adding: “TEAMtalk understands Sarr is keen on the possibility of leaving Selhurst Park, while Galatasaray are pushing to try to make the move happen.”

The asking price would make Sarr the second-most expensive player in the history of Turkish football after Victor Osimhen, and Galatasaray are reluctant to match that fee. United are keeping a close watch on the situation, but all signs indicate a move may be unlikely this summer.

The report concludes: “United continue to keep abreast of developments, although we understand a move for Sarr would also prove difficult given Palace’s stance.”

Final Thoughts

Sarr is in his prime and his Premier League experience could help him hit the ground running at the Theatre of Dreams. However, the Senegalese prefers to operate on the right, and with Mbeumo and Amad already in the squad, perhaps United should target a left-winger instead.
