Leeds United have announced a 14 per cent increase in season ticket prices for the 2025-26 campaign, regardless of which division the club will compete in next season - and it's not gone down well with some.
This marks the third price rise for Whites supporters in 12 years, with adult tickets now starting at £494.96, up from £434.01 last season, as the renewal process begins for eligible supporters.
The club have come under scrutiny from their supporters following the hike, with factions within the fanbase claiming the Leeds hierarchy have ignored fan consultation regarding season ticket prices.
In light of these issues Football League World spoke with designated Leeds United fan pundit, Kris Smith, on whether or not the Whites owners had made the wrong move.
"Given the price of just about everything in the country is going up at the moment, I don’t think that it’s any shock that the price of a season ticket has risen at Elland Road.” Smith told FLW.
“It's £78 (increase) in my seat in the South Stand - that said, I don’t think it’s a good look for the club, when we not only don’t know what division we’re going to be playing in, but everyone across the ground is not seeing where the money is going in terms of making sure the money is keeping the stadium in a good condition.
“I think there’s countless examples that you see across the stadium of it just looking outdated in areas, and in need of some TLC.
“Whether that’s just a simple lick of paint to restore the look of the stadium, or whether it’s things like toilets in the concourses needing very obvious refurbishment, looking decades old in some instances.
“The fact the fans are getting charged more while the experience of going to Elland Road, especially for the away fans - because what you hear from the away fans, that West Stand corner isn’t good enough either.
Smith expressed continued disappointment regarding the lack of regeneration of the Whites’ iconic ground.
“The experience of going to Elland Road has stayed the same for years now, and that’s quite alarming given the prices constantly going up," Kris added.
"And for me, that just doesn’t bode well going forward unless we see something develop in that regard soon."
The Leeds United Supporters Trust has voiced strong opposition to the price increases, expressing "disappointment" that the club ignored fan feedback during consultations.
The Trust raised concerns about affordability, particularly for families, stating the price increases risk "jeopardising the club's future generation of fans."
A club statement confirmed: "Season Ticket Prices will not be dependent upon the club's divisional status, they will remain the same whichever league we are in for the 2025/26 campaign.”
With Leeds currently sitting second in the Championship after dropping points against Swansea City at Elland Road this past weekend, the decision to implement price rises without knowing which division the club will compete in next season has further fueled fan discontent.
The timing of the announcement comes as the club pushes for a return to the Premier League after falling short in last season's playoff final., but it naturally has not gone down well with all - and if it's Championship football that United will be playing next season, then there will be even more anger to come.
