Istanbul Basaksehir midfielder Deniz Turuc has revealed Ajax coach Erik ten Hag called him after victory over Manchester United.
Turuc was outstanding in the Champions League shock - and Ten Hag was eager to call his former protégé, having coached the Turkey international at FC Twente and Go Ahead Eagles.
"Ten Hag called me the day after the game to congratulate me on the victory and my assist. I still have a good relationship with Ten Hag, he is a father figure to me," revealed Turuc.
Turuc also had a word with Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek after the match - and Ten Hag asked after his former Ajax player.
Turuc explained: “In that conversation we also talked about Donny, he asked me what I thought of his game. Ten Hag is a fan who knows almost everything about football. That Donny and I play at this level, he contributed to that. He gave us the opportunity and it is good that we faced each other. I wish Donny the best, but not when we face him.
“The victory over Manchester United caused euphoria in Turkey, for sure. It is also important for the coefficient list, perhaps that the champion of Turkey can keep a direct ticket to the Champions League."
