One surprise during Manchester City’s lean run of form has been the lack of opportunities for James McAtee. The City youngster hasn’t been able to break into Pep Guardiola’s plans as the world champions have struggled during their past ten games.
You did get the sense weeks ago that if McAtee couldn’t break into City’s lineup now, when would he? The answer appears to be that he won’t get that chance. A new report suggests that McAtee could leave Manchester City in the January transfer window. Frankly, based on his lack of opportunities this season, you can’t blame him if he does seek a move away from the Etihad next month.
Danny Rust and Dean Jones have reported for GIVEMESPORT that James McAtee is increasingly likely to seek a move away from Manchester City during the January transfer window. Furthermore, the report indicates that Crystal Palace, West Ham and Bayer Leverkusen all have an interest in signing the England youth international. Lastly, the report adds that McAtee hasn’t been pushing for a January move. Instead, he may have to consider his options based on his lack of opportunities this season, as per Rust and Jones’ report.
You couldn’t blame James McAtee for leaving Manchester City next month. He has had no opportunities to show what he is capable of this season. Even as Pep Guardiola’s side has struggled during the past ten games McAtee has remained on the bench. He continues to rack up unused substitute appearances as his senior teammates battle on through fatigue and a heavy schedule. McAtee is 22 and needs to be playing to fulfil his potential. For whatever reason it doesn’t look like he will get those opportunities under Pep Guardiola.
There has been no real explanation as to why McAtee hasn’t featured more often this season. Perhaps he just isn’t ready to play for Manchester City. That may be the most obvious answer as to why he hasn’t been called upon more often this season. There is no doubt he has the talent and potential to succeed as a player. But perhaps he needs to leave the Etihad to finally fulfil that promise.
You couldn’t blame James McAtee if he does leave the world champions next month. It does appear that his card is marked in terms of his position in the Manchester City squad. The City youngster needs to be playing regularly for his sake. A move in January may allow him to do that as it seems he won’t get that opportunity at the Etihad.
