The assumption remains that Enzo Maresca will be the next manager of Manchester City. As of yet, there has been no official confirmation from City of this. It has now been four weeks since Pep Guardiola stepped down after a decade of dominance as City manager. While it has been reported that Maresca is already hard at work preparing for the 2026-27 season as Manchester City’s manager, the wait for the official announcement of Maresca’s appointment continues. However, that may be about to change. A new report indicates that City and Chelsea are close to agreeing on a compensation package for Maresca which will finally see the Italian manager confirmed as City’s next manager.

Manchester City and Chelsea are on the verge of completing a financial settlement that will see Maresca appointed as City manager.

Matt Hughes has provided an update on the situation surrounding Enzo Maresca for The Guardian. Hughes reports that Manchester City and Chelsea are close to reaching a financial settlement that will allow City to officially appoint Enzo Maresca as manager. Furthermore, Hughes reports that City will pay Chelsea over £10 million as compensation for Maresca leaving his post as Chelsea manager midway through the 2025-26 season. It is also reported by Matt Hughes that Chelsea believes Maresca breached his contract with the club by talking to City while still being employed by the club. Also, Hughes reports that Chelsea believes they have sufficient evidence that Manchester City made an illegal approach to Enzo Maresca over taking over from Pep Guardiola. However, Chelsea have no intention of reporting City to the Premier League and negotiations continue over a financial settlement.

It now seems that it is only a matter of time before Enzo Maresca is confirmed as Manchester City’s manager. Chelsea and City are reportedly on the verge of agreeing on a financial settlement which will allow Maresca to begin life as the City manager.

However, Enzo Maresca is reportedly getting a head start to life at Manchester City. Sam Lee has reported for The Athletic that Maresca is working with Manchester City’s Director of Football Hugo Viana over summer transfer targets. Also, Maresca is in contact with other departments at Manchester City as he aims to hit the ground running as City manager.
