Germany have suffered a significant injury blow ahead of their final World Cup warm-up friendly against the United States on Saturday.

As head coach Julian Nagelsmann revealed on Friday, 18-year-old Bayern Munich prodigy Lennart Karl will miss the game after suffering an injury in training.

"Unfortunately, ‘Lenny’ got injured in training today. To be honest, it didn't look very good. We'll have to wait and see," Nagelsmann said.

Nagelsmann didn't reveal the nature of the injury, but it's currently unclear if Karl will be able to take part in the World Cup at all.

"I ask you to be a little patient. We're heading to the hospital now to get some imaging done. Please give him some space for a moment – the player needs time to process this, and so do we," Nagelsmann said.

"Then we'll see whether we can hopefully go into the tournament with him or whether we'll need to call up another player."

Nagelsmann also revealed that Manuel Neuer will miss the match against the United States. The Bayern veteran is continuing his return to full fitness, but will not be risked.

Deniz Undav, meanwhile, will be available for “a maximum of 30 minutes” after having to reduce his workload in training.
