Bayern Munich were made to work for their 1-0 win against St. Pauli on Saturday afternoon. Despite dominating with 71 percent possession and 12 shots and an xG of 0.88, the Rekordmeister had to be patient as the hosts remained resilient.
Jamal Musiala’s long-range effort in the 22nd minute was the difference as St. Pauli frustrated Bayern Munich, something that Joshua Kimmich touched upon post-match.
Speaking to the club’s official media, Kimmich said: “It doesn’t always have to be spectacular.
“It was a difficult game for us today, but we remained patient and didn’t make the opponent look better than they were. They defended well and concentrating on defending for 90 minutes – that’s not easy for us. Of course, you hope that the opponent will play a bit and that the space will open up. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen today, but we played it out confidently.”
Bayern Munich moved six points clear of RB Leipzig, who have a game in hand as they host Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga Topspiel.
After the international break, Bayern Munich host neighbouring Augsburg before travelling to Borussia Dortmund for the Klassiker.
