Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliott Anderson says he is pleased with how he fared on his England debut.
Anderson starred in England’s 2-0 World Cup qualifier win, making 100% of his tackles, having a 94% passing accuaracy and completing 7/8 of his attempted long passes.
The Englishman earned his first senior call up to the national team last week and became only the second Forest player to achieve this feat since 1996 alongside teammate Morgan Gibbs-White.
When asked whether he though his performance got him closer to the World Cup squad Anderson said: “I think it’s only one game, really.
“I think I’m focusing on the next game and then the game after that to try and make an impact and then obviously all eyes are on the World Cup.”
The midfielder was a key part of England’s Under-21 side that won the European Championships this summer, playing every match of the tournament, so has already performed in an England shirt before. The midfielder kept up his previous form for his country up looking very comfortable on his senior debut.
“Yeah my performance could be because of the Euros, but I think a lot of it is from training this week and the lads welcoming me and making me feel at home. I went out of there and it felt really good.” he explained.
Thomas Tuchel put the midfielder in his squad and the England manager gave the young player some advice before the match.
“He spoke to me in the hotel and said, obviously, I’ll be nervous, but he said it’s normal and just stay calm and do what I do.” Anderson said.
Even though he played well, the Forest man still believes it could have gone better after Anderson was denied from also scoring his first England goal as Andorra goalkeeper Iker Alvarez saved his header from inside the six yard box.
“I should have scored, I think, but it is what it is, next time.”
