“It remains an individual trophy” – PSG star on Ballon d’Or competition from teammates | OneFootball

Ousmane Dembele has been speaking on what it’s like to be a Ballon d’Or winner, one year after he won, as he tries to double up.

It’s Ballon d’Or season, but as well as the PSG players nominated for it this year, people want to hear from last year’s winner Ousmane Dembele, 12 months on from his special moment.

He’s done a few interviews this week as the ceremony gets closer. It’s very hear to him him speak about the honour of being recognised like this.

Many people are torn on the award, given it rewards an individual in a team sport. Dembele touched on this in his comments:

“You have to show why you were elected Ballon d’Or. After that, you still have to perform, especially in Champions League matches, World Cup matches,” Dembele said.

“It’s a collective trophy, but also an individual one nonetheless. The forty goals, it’s still you who scored them. You’re obviously helped by your teammates, but it remains an individual trophy.”

He faces some hot competition this year – not least from his own teammates. They are all worthy winners, but only one will take the trophy home.
