‘It saddens me enormously’ – Maxence Caqueret reveals his sadness at Lyon’s struggles | OneFootball

In an interview with Téléfoot, Maxence Caqueret (23) spoke about his sadness at the current situation Lyon find themselves in, the impact of Fabio Grosso and OL’s first victory of the season against Rennes. OL are currently sat at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table with only one win to their name, after their worst start ever to a Ligue 1 season.

The former France U21 international was asked about Lyon’s situation to which he responded, “The situation saddens me enormously. 3 years ago, I couldn’t imagine myself playing for this club… We’re going to have to hold on so as not to go down and move forwards because that is the objective here at OL.”

Despite a torrid start to the season, things started to look up for Lyon before the international break as they recorded their first win of the season against the ten-men of Rennes. Caqueret hopes the club can use this as a “trigger” to progress: “We hope that this victory against Rennes will lead us to other victories, and then we can talk about a trigger!”

Lyon have not just suffered a major change at board level this season but also in the dugout. Les Gones started the season with Laurent Blanc in charge of the club. However, after a poor start to the season and asking the club to sack him in a post-match interview, the former PSG coach was replaced by Fabio Grosso.

The Lyon midfielder was asked about the impact of the club’s new head coach to which he replied: “The coach insisted a lot on commitment, aggressiveness. We understand a lot more what he asks of us, we are more structured, but we have to be more effective on both surfaces.”
