Today Pierre Sage was officially presented to the press as Racing Club de Lens’ new coach for the 2025-2026 season, succeeding Will Still in the hot seat at Stade Boellart. Sage’s former club Lyon landed in hot water last week and found themselves – as it stands – administratively relegated to Ligue 2 (subject to an appeal). It was a subject that the former Lyon boss, who departed the club last January, held close to his heart. “It saddens me to see historic clubs like OL and Bordeaux in such trouble,” said Sage at a press conference on Monday morning, transcribed by Foot Mercato. “We’ve followed their journeys in France and in Europe – it’s tough to see institutions like these shaken.”“I’m even more affected because it was Lyon that gave me the chance to be here today. But I think they’re taking the right steps to protect the investment that was made. I believe they’re on the right path.”GFFN | George Boxall
