Claudio Marchisio, the former teammate of Paul Pogba (31) at Juventus, has reflected on the Frenchman after the midfielder was found guilty of doping by the Italian Anti-Doping Court (TNA).

Speaking to AS, Marchisio spoke about the troubles Pogba has faced since he left Juventus in 2016 to join Manchester United. “Everything he’s experienced hurts me a lot, between physical and personal problems and the issue of doping.”

The former Italian international continued, “He was one of the teammates who impressed me the most on the field, injuries did not allow him to have the career he deserved, he could have aimed for the Ballon d’Or.”

At the time that Pogba left Juventus, he was widely considered to be one of the most exciting talents in midfield, and while he later went on to win the World Cup in 2018, there has always been the feeling of wasted potential.

Marchisio finishes his thought by suggesting that the turning point was in 2016 when the midfielder returned to his formative club. “I think it was a mistake to return to United. It didn’t help his development.”

Pogba to appeal his doping ban

Pogba has made it clear that he believes the decision by the TNA was a mistake, stating “I am sad, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me.” And has publicly expressed his intention to fight the ban, and that he will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, in an attempt to return to the professional game as soon as possible.
