As the football world turns its attention towards the upcoming World Cup, Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal has offered a rare glimpse into his personal journey, discussing some of the biggest moments of his career.
Widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in world football, the teenager spoke openly on his YouTube channel about his experiences, touching on the Ballon d’Or, his rapid development, and the players who continue to inspire him.
Speaking candidly about the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Yamal admitted that he believed he had a genuine chance of taking home football’s biggest individual prize.
“To be honest, that day I thought I was going to win it,” he told his followers.
Despite missing out on the award, the Barcelona forward now views the experience differently. Looking back, he believes the outcome may have benefited him in the long run.

“I honestly believe it was good for me that Dembele won it, so that I could develop. Perhaps it wasn’t the right time for me.”
The young Spaniard also revealed that he shares a positive relationship with Ousmane Dembele
“I wasn’t at my best, and it helped me a lot. Since then, I’ve made changes in my life, and I think I’ve matured.”
Yamal also looked back on Spain’s successful Euro 2024 campaign, which marked his first major international tournament.
Despite his age, he emerged as one of the standout performers and played a key role in Spain lifting the trophy.

“I was just a kid; you get butterflies because it’s an international tournament. I learnt to stay calmer.
“The matches are long, and so are the tournaments. You always finish better than you start.”
The Barcelona star also highlighted the players he enjoys watching most. Unsurprisingly, he reserved special praise for one of the game’s greatest entertainers.
Speaking about Neymar, Yamal said, “I’ll always enjoy watching Ney because he’s my idol.”
He also mentioned two other players he admires, identifying Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki of Manchester City as footballers he particularly enjoys watching.
Lastly, he also promised that if Spain win the World Cup, he will grow “a beard and moustache for three weeks.”
