Malo Gusto is a player who divides opinion a little when on the pitch. He’s got so many positive qualities – his stamina is phenomenal – but he’s also a little messy in possession sometimes, and lacks the finesse you’d like from a top attacking full back.
That is rather nicely summed up by the fact that he only scored his first Chelsea goal in his 98th appearance for the club. That’s not great going for a player who ends up in the box a huge amount because of the way that Enzo Maresca sets up his team.
But as well as being popular with the fans, he’s clearly popular with the players too. They all celebrated with him wildly, and after the game he spoke to Chelsea TV.

“It’s been a long time since I came here, and this is only the beginning. I’m very proud. I’ve been waiting for this one! I’m very happy for me, my family and the fans,” Gusto said.
“It was a big win. The performance was really important for us before the international break, and we are here for the top four – that is our objective – and we will keep going and keep fighting.
“For my goal, it was our plan to bring players into the box. It was the key, we showed that today, and I’m very happy for the team.”
It wasn’t all good news for Chelsea – several players have question marks over their fitness after the game last night, and Enzo Maresca gave an update on all of them.
Joao Pedro had a good game for the Blues, thriving with the help of Liam Delap up top and scoring a nice goal. His stats showed a much improved player in this setup.
