Italian Football Federation withdraws support for Gianni Infantino’s 2027 FIFA re-election bid | OneFootball

The Italian Football Federation has withdrawn its backing for Gianni Infantino’s bid to be re-elected FIFA president in March 2027, a move taken in agreement with UEFA.

In a statement, the FIGC said it had removed its support and wanted its stance set out clearly and transparently, in full alignment with UEFA and its president Aleksander Ceferin.

The federation signalled reservations over Infantino’s recent governance initiatives and plans for the development of international competitions.

Giovanni Malago, the FIGC president, set out a commitment to keep working with UEFA and other European federations to promote football built on merit, solidarity and sustainability, with supporters at the centre.

He also backed an approach based on dialogue, listening and shared responsibility, which, according to him, has so far enabled the game to grow and innovate while preserving core principles. The Italian stance further consolidates a European front critical of some FIFA directions.
