The Daily Mail cites several Italian outlets suggesting that AS Roma are still interested in Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian is out of a contract at the end of next season and recently saw a £25m release clause expire (h/t Daily Mail).
The Italian reports (h/t Daily Mail) claim that Tottenham have upped the price of Alderweireld to £37m, with Roma being interested in the 30-year-old for a while.
The centre-back has been a part of our pre-season throughout the summer and featured in the 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the Audi Cup semi-finals.
Alderweireld is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and it is a little surprising to note that Roma are still looking to complete a deal for him.
Outlets such as La Repubblica, Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Roma are preparing for more talks with Tottenham in the coming days (h/t Daily Mail).
The report adds that Tottenham could be unwilling to sell a top defender like Alderweireld at this point in time given that the season is set to start soon.
The Premier League’s transfer window ends on 8th August, while the window in Italy, Spain and Germany is open for a little longer.
Tottenham have Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth as the other centre-backs but we should not sell Alderweireld so close to the start of the campaign.
