Riccardo Trevisani has blasted Inter Milan for not pursuing the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma more aggressively.

According to Trevisani via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri had to make the Italian’s arrival their top priority in the summer.

Inter Milan had a busy summer.

In addition to signing five new players, they severed ties with numerous fringe stars.

Furthermore, the newcomers did not come cheaply.

Indeed, the San Siro giants forked out around €85 million to sign Ange-Yoan Bonny, Luis Henrique, Andy Diouf, and Petar Sucic.

Meanwhile, Manuel Akanji has joined from Manchester City on loan with an option to buy.

However, it’s worth noting that Inter spent most of the summer chasing Ademola Lookman’s signature.

Despite Atalanta’s firm stance, the Nerazzurri kept insisting until they finally gave up in early August.

Shortly after dropping interest in the Nigerian, they put Roma’s Manu Kone at the top of their shopping list.

Yet, like in Lookman’s case, the Giallorossi showed no interest in selling their standout midfielder.

Donnarumma emerged as a presentable market opportunity midway through the summer.

Indeed, the star goalkeeper fell out of favor at Paris Saint-Germain.

Moreover, his agent was actively searching for a new club, with Inter monitoring the situation from a distance.

However, the 26-year-old ended up joining Manchester City in the transfer window finale.

Meanwhile, Yann Sommer is on the brink of losing the starting spot at San Siro, with Josep Martinez expected to take over.

“The club made €45 million available, and I would have spent it on Gigio Donnarumma,” Trevisani said.

“This was the signing Inter needed to solve the problem for the next ten years.

“It’s true that last summer you invested in Martinez, who in my view should become Inter’s starter just like Onana did two years ago.

“However, with that budget, you have to go for Donnarumma. Koné is excellent, but he’s another midfielder.

“Lookman is also excellent, but I don’t even know how he would have fit alongside Lautaro and Thuram.”
