Italian journalist Riccardo Trevisani delivered his verdict on the controversy surrounding yesterday’s clash between Sassuolo and Inter Milan.

Speaking to the Pressing via FCInter1908, Trevisani took stock of Marcus Thuram’s alleged offside position before Inter’s opener.

Cristian Chivu’s side made light work of mid-table Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium, sailing to a comprehensive 5-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Federico Dimarco put on a show in Emilia-Romagna, racking up three assists.

Therefore, the 28-year-old has carved out his position as the most creative player in Europe’s top-five leagues, let alone Serie A.

Indeed, the Italian wingback has now tallied 14 league assists this season.

On the other hand, Lautaro Martinez netted his 171st goal in Inter colors, equaling Roberto Boninsegna’s club record.

El Toro is now the Nerazzurri’s third-best goalscorer.

However, Thuram’s position in the build-up to the opening goal cast a shadow over the emphatic win.

The Frenchman seemed to have been in an offside position before drawing a corner kick, which led to Inter’s deadlock-breaker.

“Thuram’s alleged offside? Doig complains, but for me it’s actually him who keeps Thuram onside, not the centre-back,” Trevisani explained.

“Doig is deeper than Muharemovic.

“Assistant referees have to raise the flag only when they are sure; here, you can’t be sure, so we’re talking about nothing.”

Trevisani also hailed Chivu’s reform.

“Chivu changed the defence, gave more space to Zielinski, and he has a huge advantage,” he added.

“Having a team that, when he brings on others – as happened with Esposito, Bonny, and Sucic – actually improves.

“The next 15 days are very important,” Trevisani was adamant.

“Inter–Juventus opens these two weeks with the playoffs. We’ll learn a lot about these two teams.”

Inter and Juventus will lock horns in a mouth-watering Derby d’Italia clash next weekend, with the Nerazzurri seeking their sixth consecutive Serie A win.
