Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin took stock of Inter Milan’s transfer strategy for the January transfer window.
In his Tuttomercatoweb column via FCInter1908, Biasin highlighted the need for another center-back.
However, he believes the reigning Scudetto holders will sit out the winter transfer session.
Injuries to Benjamin Pavard and Francesco Acerbi have decimated Simone Inzaghi’s defensive options.
But Stefan de Vrij and Yann Bisseck have thrived in their absence.
Indeed, they’ve forged a formidable partnership with Alessandro Bastoni at the back, re-establishing Inter as a defensive superpower.
For context, Inzaghi’s men have only conceded once in five league matches without Pavard and Acerbi.
Even that only blemish wasn’t the doing of an opposition player but Matteo Darmian’s clumsy own goal against Parma.
Therefore, Beppe Marotta is seemingly reluctant to do business in January, even though Inzaghi lacks numbers in defense.
“Inter won’t be making any moves in the transfer market,” he stated.
“Some believe they should. At least a defender is needed.
“However, at Inter, they don’t see it this way, and the reason is quite simple.
“Aside from the fact that, in an ideal world, injuries and commitments would require much larger squads.
“No one wants to disrupt a group that has been performing very well so far.
“The dynamics inside the locker room are not visible from the outside.
“But that almost always matters more than what happens on the pitch.”
Inter headed to Saudi Arabia to take on Atalanta in their Supercoppa Italiana semi-final tie without Acerbi and Pavard.
However, Inzaghi hopes to have his defensive stalwarts back for the upcoming Serie A trip to Venezia.
Indeed, the Nerazzurri will resume their title defense on January 12, which could be the return date for the injured duo.
Meanwhile, Inzaghi will continue to rely on Bisseck and De Vrij.
