Vincenzo Italiano hinted his Bologna future is far from certain after a 3-3 draw with Inter and rumours linking him with Napoli and Milan. ‘I will meet with the club and we’ll draw our conclusions.’

The Rossoblu concluded the campaign with a chaotic 3-3 thriller against Scudetto and Coppa Italia winners Inter, fumbling a 3-1 lead to be held late on.

Their situation was already guaranteed anyway, missing out on European qualification, despite reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa League against Aston Villa.

At the final whistle, Italiano first leg his players salute the fans, then went under the Curva to give his own wave amid reports he will leave the Stadio Dall’Ara.

“We closed this season very well, unbeaten in the last four games,” Italiano told DAZN Italia.

“We were unable to perform the sporting miracle of achieving seventh place, but I am still happy because we have some very strong teams ahead of us. The fans recognised it was a long, exhausting and exciting season. We got it wrong at times, but also had some real highs.”

The rumours maintain that Italiano is set for a significant step up in his career, seen as an alternative to Max Allegri at Milan and Antonio Conte at Napoli.

“It is not the first time I’ve been asked about my future and it is starting to create some undue pressure. I will meet with the club, we don’t have Europe to plan for, so we’ve got to understand what we want to do. And then we will draw our conclusions.

“We’ve had some moments with these fans that can never be wiped out, even by a few negative situations. The Coppa Italia we won together will remain in the trophy room,” continued Italiano.

“These were two incredible years going around Europe. We think that something extraordinary was achieved, now it’s important to plan carefully, because these people want and deserve to see a great Bologna.

“This atmosphere must be protected and things done properly. Because there are very strong teams in this league, but others could still push in and have their say. That someone could be Bologna.”
