Nicolo Barella says that there is “no explanation” for the way that Inter Milan collapsed in the Champions League final against PSG.
The 27-year-old looked back on the horrorshow that was that 5-0 defeat while speaking to DAZN, via FCInterNews. He admitted that the team have discussed what might have went wrong.
Inter Milan did not just lose to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
The Nerazzurri fell to a crushing 5-0 defeat. It was the widest margin that any team has ever lost a European Cup final by.
Inter were 2-0 down by the twentieth minute of the match. And things hardly got better from there.
For the entirety of the match, the Nerazzurri looked unable to cope with the physicality and organization that PSG brought to the match.
It was a night-and-day difference from the 2023 final, in which Inter went toe-to-toe with Premier League giants Manchester City.

Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella said that “I don’t have an answer” regarding why Inter lost in such emphatic fashion against PSG.
“And there probably isn’t an explanation,” he went on.
Barella commented that “it’s a combination of a lot of factors.”
“I would struggle to say, ‘It happened because…’ We tried to talk about it a lot, and confront one another, even the best players in the team.”
“Not to find a culprit,” Barella explained. “But to understand the feelings that we had inside ourselves.”
“They were all different. So that means that there were a lot of elements to it.”
Then, Barella noted that “Football is like that.”
“It can happen that you have a bad day. Unfortunately, it happened after we reached the final. That’s the biggest disappointment.”
“But I’m staying on this path,” said the Italian international.
“We lost against the strongest team in the world,” Barella said of that defeat in the final. “And we won against the two other strongest [Bayern Munich and Barcelona].”
