Midfielder Davide Frattesi has been named as Inter Milan’s outstanding performer in yesterday’s Serie A win over Empoli.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. hail the 25-year-old’s decisive display. They also praise the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella.

Frattesi got the nod in Inter’s starting eleven yesterday evening.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi decided to go with the same midfield setup he had used in the Champions League against Young Boys and against Roma after Hakan Calhanoglu came off injured.

That meant that Nicolo Barella played in the holding midfield role. And Davide Frattesi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan lined up alongside him in the trio.

This was yet another big opportunity for Frattesi, who hasn’t always found playing time from the start easy to come by at Inter.

And the former Sassuolo midfielder grabbed his chance with both hands.

If there is one quality that has always marked Frattesi out it is is clinical eye for goal from midfield.

And that proved to be the case yesterday, certainly.

The 25-year-old Italian international was in the right place at the right time to score Inter’s opener. He met a knockdown from Matteo Darmian.

There was a bit of fortune in that Frattesi’s effort took a deflection off of defender Mattia Viti. But his timing and positioning were impeccable.

Then, it was an even better finish for Frattesi’s and Inter’s second.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta also praise Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez for coming alive in the second half of yesterday’s match after a quiet first half.

First, the Argentine found Frattesi with a perfectly-weighed layoff.

Then it was an excellent finish as Martinez scored his fourth Serie A goal of the season and his 134th in total for Inter.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta argue that Nicolo Barella didn’t always look convincing in holding midfield. However, the former Cagliari midfielder had a big impact on the match once he switched to a box-to-box role.
