Francesco Pio Esposito has credited Cristian Chivu as a key reason behind his breakthrough at Inter Milan, suggesting his path at the club may have been far less straightforward without him.
According to the Corriere della Sera, via FCInter1908, the young Italian striker spoke warmly about his long-standing relationship with the Inter head coach.
Going so far as to pull up a photo on his phone to illustrate just how far back their connection goes.
“This photo, where we celebrate a goal of mine in the Under-14 derby, won 3-1. It shows how long we’ve known each other,” he said.
“I owe him a lot for the faith he showed in me, including this summer.”
When asked whether he would have remained at Inter without Chivu’s appointment, Esposito was candid.
“I can’t know for certain. Perhaps it would have been more complicated. Chivu definitely has a special inclination towards young players, and he already knew me.”
The comments underline just how significant Chivu‘s arrival has been for the club’s younger players.
Especially with Pio Esposito, indeed, now a key figure in Inter’s Scudetto push.
Now he will lead the line for Inter at Como, after Lautaro’s injury could see the Argentine out for weeks.
