Marcus Rashford and Joan Garcia were not the only players to make their debut for FC Barcelona against RCD Mallorca. Beyond it just being a great win for the team, another player made his debut as well. Aged just 18, young left-back Jofre Torrents was also called into action.

Brought into the game during the second half, Torrents got to play a decent number of minutes for Barça during his debut. Even after the game concluded, he could not help but share the joy he felt.

Jofre Torrents fulfils childhood dream with Barcelona debut

While speaking to TV3 (via Mundo Deportivo), Torrents shared how he felt after making his debut for the team :

“I’m very happy. It’s a childhood dream to officially debut with the club of my life. Now, I’ll keep working to get more opportunities.”

He also shared how Hansi Flick instructed the players to play and be on the pitch, and it seems to have helped the youngster:

“Flick told us to play calmly. He gave me a lot of encouragement and wished me luck. Before going in, you’re always nervous—it’s the first team and a league debut—but once you’re on the pitch, you stop thinking about everything else. You just think about playing football, and everything else disappears.”

Torrents also spoke about the support of his family and friends, highlighting how it motivated him to do his best:

“All my family and friends sent me messages of encouragement so I could go out with maximum intensity if I got the chance and give my best version. That’s what I tried to do.”

As for his objective moving forward, the young left-back wants to continue playing for Barcelona and take advantage of all the opportunities that are given to him:

“Obviously, my objective and my dream is to play as many matches as possible for Barça, the club of my life. That’s what I’ll try to do—take advantage of the opportunities the coach gives me.”

However, just as Hansi Flick was not satisfied with the team’s performance despite Mallorca having two players sent off, Torrents acknowledged that the team should have done better as well:

“Playing against nine men is something we’re not used to. But that’s no excuse. We’re Barça, and the fewer players there are on the pitch, the more we have to take advantage.”

Lastly, he also praised Lamine Yamal, a player who is the same age as him and has already established himself as one of the best players in world football:

“Lamine is incredible. When I saw him cut inside and that they were leaving him space, I knew it would probably be a goal.”
