After Friday’s tedious draw at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Scotland learned that their 28 year wait to finally take part in a World Cup will see them competing in Group C alongside Brazil, Morocco and Haiti.

On Friday, Scotland discovered who they would be up against, with the announcement of venues, kick-off times and dates following during a second live broadcast on Saturday evening.

Steve Clarke’s side opens their campaign against Haiti in Boston on Saturday, 13 June, then returns to the same venue six days later to take on Morocco.

Scotland’s final fixture in Group C comes on Wednesday, 24 June, when Kieran Tierney and his national team teammates face a blockbuster encounter against Brazil in Miami.

Speaking via Daily Record giving his reaction to the draw, Tierney said: “It’s amazing. That’s why you’re part of it.”

“When you saw the groups coming out, you had a feeling Scotland would be the one to draw Brazil. It is an amazing achievement for our country to reach that milestone. I’m sure all the fans, players and staff will be looking forward to it.”

“I think everyone, when you say you’re going to the World Cup, people say: ‘Hopefully we get Brazil’.”

“It’s a massive tie. How good they are, how historic a country they are. So many good players. It’s one we’ll look forward to.”

Scotland entered the draw from Pot 3, having secured their place back on the world stage thanks to last month’s dramatic 4–2 victory over Denmark in Glasgow in which Tierney netted the famous winner in stoppage time.

Scotland’s most recent competitive clashes with Brazil and Morocco were during their previous World Cup appearance in 1998, and the Scots have yet to meet Haiti in a competitive fixture ever.

The Brazil (Brazilian footballers Dunga, Bebeto, Cafu, Junior Baiano, Giovanni, Aldair, Rivaldo, Claudio Taffarel, Cesar Sampaio, Roberto Carlos, and Ronaldo) and Scotland footballers Colin Hendry, Jim Leighton, Paul Lambert, Christian Dailly, Tom Boyd, Kevin Gallacher, Gordon Durie, Craig Burley, Colin Calderwood, and Darren Jackson) teams emerge onto the pitch ahead of the 1998 FIFA World Cup Group A match between the teams, at the Stade de France, Saint-Denis, Paris, France, 10th June 1998. Brazil are the tournament’s most successful nation with five titles, whilst Morocco famously advanced to the 2022 semi-finals in Qatar, and Haiti return to the competition for the first time since 1974.

The tournament begins in Mexico City on Thursday, 11 June, and concludes with the final in New York on Sunday, 19 July.
