"It's exciting": What Raumi likes about Micho's tactics | OneFootball

"As a player, it's always good to play and not always be stuck in the preparation phase," said David Raum, who seems to be looking forward to our first Bundesliga game against Gladbach just as much as we are. After Leipzig's dispatched Eintracht Trier in a warm-up match last weekend, they will be looking for their first three points of the season on Saturday.

"Playing matches is always more fun than training. That's why everyone's feeling the anticipation, especially me," explained Raumi. The 28-year-old is going into his fifth season at RB Leipzig and his second as captain. After a year without continental competition, the fact that RBL are back in the Champions League means that the boys will be back to playing three times a week on a regular basis.

"We're all ready and feeling up for it. You could see that at the weekend. Of course, not everything was perfect, but the processes are getting better and better. We're all really looking forward to it. The fans are also itching for things to get underway," said Raumi.

"More goal contributions"

As an attacking-minded left-back and the head coach's right-hand man, Raumi stands to gain a lot from Micho's tactical ideas, which are a perfect fit with RBL's DNA.

"Micho embodies it absolutely. He's always got a lot of positive energy. The coaching team are always pushing us and Micho leads the way. It's exciting. Off the ball, we are very active and aggressive, while we aim to be creative on the ball. We want to inject pace into the game. Our style of play is a good mix of entertainment, energy and mentality," summarised the captain.

Last season, David Raum notched three goals and nine assists in 34 competitive appearances - a more than respectable tally. His game is geared around set-pieces in the opposition half and crosses.

"I'm always pushing myself to get in on the action. My role under Micho could end up being very, very fun and one where - I don't want to make too many promises - I can get more goal contributions."

Looking forward to Champions League nights

In terms of the games that the internationally experienced David Raum (19 Champions League appearances, 39 Germany caps) is looking forward to most, it's certain to be those nights in Europe's premier continental competition. RB Leipzig will find out their opponents in this year's group phase on Thursday.

"I'm hoping for a few great Champions League nights against exciting opponents. And, also, that we perform better than we did two years ago. The team is talented enough to get to the knockout rounds," said Raumi to the media.

The idea of leading the team onto the pitch as captain on the biggest stage of all fills the Germany international with pride. "Rewarding myself for last season and leading the boys into the action in the Champions League represents the next step for me - it's a nice story. I'll try to enjoy every game and to lead the way."
