Lewis Steele Expects Another Busy Liverpool Summer Transfer Window

Liverpool’s difficult campaign has already sparked discussion about what comes next, and according to journalist Lewis Steele, another active summer transfer window could be on the horizon at Anfield. Speaking to Dave Davis on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, Steele addressed whether Liverpool will once again reshape the squad despite spending heavily last summer.

After investing around £450 million in the previous window, some expected Liverpool to have a quieter period this time around. Steele, however, believes the reality could be very different.

Liverpool Could Face Another Major Summer

During the conversation, Dave Davis suggested that Liverpool supporters might be bracing themselves for another significant transfer window.

“I suppose the final one, before we let you head off for the press here, it is a case of it’s getting the feeling for another quote unquote big summer, isn’t it?” Davis said.

Steele agreed that the situation at Liverpool points towards more transfer activity, even if it may not reach the same financial scale.

“At the end of last summer, I think we would probably have sat here and said, oh, it’s probably a quiet one next year then,” Steele explained.

Instead, he believes Liverpool’s squad situation means another busy period is likely.

“But no, it’s going to be another summer of being on the phone all day, every day, trying to verify ten rumours a day that have come from somewhere and nine point five of them are wrong.”

Uncertainty Around Key Liverpool Players

One of the main reasons Steele expects movement is the uncertainty surrounding several senior players in the Liverpool squad.

“It’s going to be big because we don’t know what’s going to happen with Salah, Konate, these sorts of players,” Steele said.

Potential departures could force Liverpool back into the market in multiple areas of the squad. Steele also referenced Federico Chiesa when discussing possible exits.

“There’s going to be exits. Chiesa’s probably going to go.”

Contract situations could also play a role in shaping Liverpool’s transfer strategy.

“Robertson’s obviously out of contract,” Steele noted, adding that the Scotland international’s future remains unclear.

Key Positions Liverpool May Target

If changes do occur, Steele believes Liverpool may need to strengthen in several key positions across the pitch.

“I think left winger is top of the list,” he said while discussing possible priorities.

The recruitment strategy may also depend on what happens with current attacking players.

“Whether that is a Salah replacement as well or whether they need two wingers.”

Defensive reinforcements could also become necessary depending on how contract situations unfold.

“So all of a sudden you’re thinking that’s a left back needed.”

Steele also pointed towards the midfield as an area that could benefit from additional depth.

“I would be going all out to sign a midfielder because I think that needs to be freshened up slightly.”

Liverpool Preparing for Another Active Window

Despite the significant investment last year, Liverpool’s evolving squad picture means recruitment could again dominate the summer conversation.

Steele made it clear that the transfer window is likely to keep journalists busy covering Liverpool once again.

“So yeah, it’s a big summer. Big, big summer again.”

While he does not expect spending to reach the level of the previous year, he still anticipates a significant period of squad change.

“Maybe not £450m, but it’ll be a big one again.”

For Liverpool, the coming months could therefore shape not only the end of the current season but also the direction of the squad moving forward. As Steele suggested on the Media Matters podcast, another busy transfer window at Anfield may already be taking shape.
