It is known that Real Madrid have been keeping a close eye on one of Europe’s most exciting young midfielders, Kees Smit of AZ Alkmaar.

The 19-year-old Dutchman has impressed scouts across the continent with his composure, intelligence, and technical ability in midfield.

However, in a surprising revelation, the teenager has made it clear where his heart truly lies, and it’s not in Madrid.

Smit favours Barcelona

In a recent interview, Smit openly confessed his admiration for Barcelona, the very club that many youngsters dream of representing.

When asked about recent comments from Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman, who compared him to Pedri, Smit responded with humility and a smile.

“Before it was De Bruyne and now it’s Pedri (laughs). Or Frenkie de Jong. I watch almost all of Barcelona’s games. It’s simply my favourite club,” he said.

This candid admission is particularly striking given that Real Madrid are among the elite clubs closely monitoring his progress.

Despite the strong interest from Los Blancos, Smit’s words make it evident that his dream destination lies in Catalonia, where players like Pedri and De Jong continue to inspire him.

Real Madrid are keeping tabs

Smit’s rise has been nothing short of spectacular. Having started as a promising academy player, he has now cemented his place as one of the Eredivisie’s most talked-about young talents.

Naturally, clubs like Real Madrid are tracking his development closely.

Interestingly, a photo of Smit wearing a Real Madrid shirt surfaced online a few months ago, fuelling speculation that he might be a fan of the Spanish champions.

Reports at the time even suggested that people close to the player believed he would be open to a move to Madrid.

Yet, judging by his latest remarks, Smit’s footballing passion and admiration clearly lean toward Barcelona.

For now, Real Madrid may continue to scout him but it seems Smit already knows where his dream future lies.
