FC Barcelona knew they needed to win at all costs, and ideally by a comfortable margin, to strengthen their chances of finishing in the top eight at the end of the Champions League league phase. They had a tough trip to face Slavia Praha.

Czechia was extremely cold, which affected Hansi Flick’s team. They took some time to grow into the game, but played a much better second half to win 4-2. While the scoreline could have been better, it is certainly not bad.

One player who had a brilliant game was Fermin Lopez, who scored a brace with two superb finishes. As quoted by SPORT, he spoke on multiple topics after the game.

Firstly, he spoke about the match:

“We knew it was going to be a tough match—the cold, the pitch, they press—but we managed to come back and finish the game very well.”

Fermin then spoke about the challenges of playing in such temperatures. He said:

“It’s not easy to play in this cold; your feet and hands hurt, but it’s no excuse.”

The Spanish midfielder then spoke about Hansi Flick’s trust in him. He said:

“I try to make the most of the coach’s trust and help the team. I’m very happy for the MVP, and above all for the victory. I hope there are more. I’m working at Barça to be in the World Cup with the national team; it’s a dream for me.”

Finally, Fermin hoped that Pedri’s injury was not serious and that he would be back soon. He said:

“It’s very hard that Pedri might be injured; I hope not. If he is, I hope it’s for a short time, because we need him for the team.”

Fermin Lopez is developing into a G/A magnet. He has already reached 20 across all competitions this season, with nine coming since the turn of the year. His performances have been excellent, and Flick is understandably starting him regularly.

In Pedri’s absence, both Dani Olmo and Fermin are likely to see a lot of minutes in the coming weeks. Only time will tell how things play out.
